Adventure Comics #247 is both the first appearance of the Legion of Super-Heroes and a launching pad for a massive roster of DC's favorite characters. "The Legion of Super-Heroes" begins with Cosmic Boy, Lightning Boy, and Saturn Girl traveling back to Smallville from the 30th Century, where they invite Superboy to join their futuristic super team. The running gag through the story is that Superboy's simply not super enough to join the Legion. Of course, things would still work out with yet another outlet for Superboy to have super adventures. The well-received Legion first returned several issues later for an encore. From there, the futuristic super team (and their backup Legion of Substitute Heroes) would go on to appear in issues of Action and Adventure, with Superboy just occasionally appearing as a supporting character. The Legion have remained favorites in the DC Universe, and most recently had their own title running through 2019 through 2021.

Artist Information
Swan was a house artist at DC working on titles like Tommy Tomorrow, he began gravitating towards Superman and his related books, Superboy, World's Finest and Jimmy Olsen, he would eventually leave DC thanks to his personality issue with Editor In Chief Mort Weisinger. He would eventually return and go on to be the artist that defined the look of Superman in the Silver Age, eventually becoming the editor of the title, but after thirty years of keeping up standards of all things Superman, Swan was given the boot in favor of John Byrne's Superman reboot, Swan's comic work began to taper off after this dismissal and he eventually retired, but will forever be recognized as the Silver Age Superman's finest artist.
