Funny Pages was one of the glut of anthology comics released during the early days of the Golden Age that sought to cash in on the sudden success of the medium. Published by Centaur Comics, a scrappy B-level imprint that has become known for its rather off-kilter output that has become a beloved target of collectors of the more obscure corners of the hobby, Funny Pages as the birthplace of some interesting and popular characters that inhabited the pop culture of the era. This particular issue’s highlight feature is the inclusion of Paul Gustavson’s The Arrow, a blueprint for all superhero archers to come. The character enjoyed quite a bit of success in the Golden Age becoming the featured star of Funny Pages. Jack Cole’s charming cover illustration will surely appeal to fans of GA humor covers as well.

Funny Pages V3 #4 is one of the rarer comics in an auction filled with difficult-to-find curiosities. There are only a scant five copies registered on the census, with this 7.5 example being the highest-graded. Bearing the Larson pedigree and hailing from the Jon Berk Collection, this issue is in an impressive state of preservation, surviving for 85 years with its bright color scheme and structural integrity intact. Sure to be a serious target lot for Golden Age collectors this is one of the rarest books in EA58.
