Tom Cook CollectionCo-creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko played it fairly striaght for the first issue of the Amazing Spider-Man, setting up their neurotic teen hero against super-spy the Chameleon and some garden-variety thugs. For a follow-up, though, the villainous Vulture showed up to create yet another classic cover of the fledgling series. Steve Ditko's nightmarish visuals were allowed to flower in full with a bold red backing that had never been attempted on a Marvel book.
