1st Bronze Age app. Linda Carter; picture frame MarvelConceived by Stan Lee as a way to appeal to female readers and try and broaden Marvel’s fanbase, Night Nurse was a romance/mystery title that only ran for four issues in the 1970s. The title was based on an earlier Atlas title, Linda Carter, Student Nurse, which was the inspiration for one of the trio of nurses featured in the sleeper hit. Reviving the concept in Daredevil V2 #58, Linda Carter returned as the Night Nurse, who was known around superhero circles to be sympathetic to the crimefighters need for anonymity which would prevent them from going to a hospital for assistance. Carter would attend to characters like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and others in secrecy, patching up their wounds so they could get back into the fray. The concept of the Night Nurse was incorporated in Marvel’s Netflix series in the personage of Claire Temple, portrayed by Rosario Dawson, whose appearances acted as a bridge between several characters that would later team up to form TV’s Defenders. This comic has become something of a minor league key since the introduction of the character in the popular streaming shows. Whether or not the book was the inspiration for the title of Gregory Isaacs’ romantic reggae hit of the same name, remains a mystery.
