Pgs. 20-21; Frank miller pencils and inks on strathmore board; 16.75" x 21.25"Among the forefront of comics creators driving the artistic growth of the medium was, and remains, Frank Miller, whose hard-nosed, aggressive style and immaculate sense of pace and composition transformed the look and mood of comics through much of the late 20th Century. One of the most revered and acclaimed titles of the last twenty years, Miller's 300, is a thrilling and highly stylized retelling of the legendary Battle of Thermopylae. It's influence has become pervasive in all media, thanks to the enormously successful film adaptation that brought this challenging and dynamic work to an even wider audience.
All of Miller's output is in high demand from discerning collectors, and art from this landmark masterpiece has been difficult to come by. One of the most enduring and famous sequences of the series, this impeccably rendered scene is instantly recognizable as by the great master, full of expertly spotted and composed expanses of black, compositions that seem cluttered at first glance but are incredibly carefully constructed to draw and direct the eye. One of the very few true masterpieces of turn-of-the-millennium comics, we are proud and delighted to offer this iconic imagery in this auction, and have no doubt it will attract the very top bidders and collectors of the rapidly growing comic-art market.
