Continuing the run of this popular anthology title, Atlas Comics once again features their Big Three heroes in solo adventures which see the trio traveling far and wide, embroiled in action and intrigue as they battle the forces of evil across the globe, the Destroyer is also here in the mix to make this one rip-roaring ride of chills and thrills. Alex Schomburg contributes another ecstatic cover, as well as an interior Human Torch story, so you get twice the Schomburg for the price of admission. There are less than fifty copies known of this comic, making it quite the desirable book for committed Golden Age Collectors.

Much has been said about the influence of Alex Schomburg's wartime covers on the Golden Age as his rambunctious style set the bar for all other artists of the era, and for good reason. Just take a gander at the action on the jam-packed cover of this highest-graded copy of All Winners #12 featuring Timely's big three heroes. The Sub-Mariner, Captain America, Human Torch and loyal sidekicks Toro and Bucky wreak havoc as they lay siege to a Japanese P.O.W. camp. The colors are stunningly bright. Everything from the red flames of Torch and Toro to Cap's pink motorcycle (?) scorch right off the page. Containing five anthology tales of derring-do, including a Destroyer story, and featuring one adventure starring each of the cover heroes, this San Francisco pedigree copy is a bonafide gem. Prices on high-grade Golden Age books are continually on the rise making this book a great investment.

Artist Information

Known for his dizzying, bustling war covers, bondage covers and airbrush Sci-Fi covers! Truly one of the most highly collected artists of the Golden Age. Alex Schomburg was born on May 10, 1905, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Schomburg freelanced primarily for Timely Comics, the 1940s forerunner of Marvel, displaying his talent for action tableaux in covers featuring Captain America, the Sub-Mariner, the Human Torch, and other superheroes. He also provided covers for Pines Publications, for titles including Exciting Comics and America's Best Comics, featuring such superheroes as the Black Terror and the Fighting Yank, as well as for Harvey Comics. Stan Lee said the following about Schomburg "I've always felt that Alex Schomburg was to comic books what Norman Rockwell was to The Saturday Evening Post. He was totally unique, with an amazing distinctive style. You could never mistake a Schomburg cover for any other artist's. ... I remember hearing Timely Comics publisher Martin Goodman tell me time and again how great a cover illustrator Alex was, and how he wished we had more like him. Despite the quantity of work we gave him, despite the care and effort that went into every Schomburg cover, I cannot remember Alex ever being late with any illustration."
