classic Infantino cover; 1st solo Black Canary + 1st Black Canary cover (2/48)
Flash Comics #92 is a big deal for both the comic industry and the Black Canary, as Dinah Drake emerges as an enduring heroine on a classic cover by Carmine Infantino. In fact, this issue marks both the Canary's first cover and her first solo story, after her early stint as a villain who regularly bedeviled Johnny Thunder. That was before she became popular enough to become Thunder's sidekick, and eventually even swiped his spot in the Justice Society of America.
Dinah stops a ring of modern-day highwaymen here, and she'll remain popular enough for her daughter Dinah Laurel Lance to carry on as the character in the late '60s. That success would later lead to Canary starring on the small screen as part of the CW Multiverse on both
Smallville and alongside the Green Arrow on
Arrow. This key issue for the Canary is also getting renewed interest as James Gunn declares his own plans for Dinah as part of the emerging DC Extended Universe — with DC featuring Black Canary in the new
Best of the Best limited series.

The white cover on this comic bears a slight patina of age, otherwise there would be few indicators that any time has passed since this book sat on a spinner rack in a local drug store or hung from a newsstand on a street corner. This copy is in extremely impressive condition, and the increased attention focused on the Black Canary means that this VF example would be a recommended investement.
Overstreet Guide 2019 VF (8.0) value = $3,789.
