Speed Comics #13 features the first appearance of Captain Freedom, whose colorful cover turn is part of why Speed continues to stand out amidst the comics that fought for prominence through the Golden Age. Known primarily for material aimed at a younger demographic, Harvey Comics would enjoy great success with such titles as Richie Rich and Hot Stuff. Their forays into other genres, however, have become beloved favorites of comic fans. As a mashup of Captain America, The Flash, and Superman, Captain Freedom was just one of the multitudes of hopeful heroes of the period that continue to captivate Golden Age collectors and fans of the hobby’s most esoteric offerings.
