Pictures logo, and transferred as originally filmed in full open matte.There’s a lot of nostalgia for the oversized clamshell VHS boxes that Warner Bros put out in the 1980s. The release of The Shining also has fans cheering for how the original VHS features the original 1973 Warner Bros. Pictures logo at the start of the film, and includes the movie shot in full “open matte” —revealing the full scope of director Stanley Kubrick’s carefully composed shots (and a few errors, like the helicopter shadow in the film’s aerial opening). There’s only one comparable disc version, which reuses the art for the 1990 VHS that disappointed fans with updating to the Warner logo and different framing.
