Kirby Iron Man cover; Ditko art; vs. the Mad Pharoah; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 6 (CBI)Jack Kirby was prolific in the Silver Age of Marvel, his famous drawing board must have been getting a real work out, but that didn't keep the King from pumping out one stunning cover after another. The cover to Tales of Suspense #44 is a real classic of the era, displaying Iron Man in all of his golden glory. As you may have been able to decipher, in this issue Iron Man travels back in time to rescue Cleopatra from the Mad Pharaoh, Hatap. During his ancient adventure Iron Man manages to battle a Roman legion, transform himself into a battering ram and become immortalized in the form of a hieroglyphic. The story inside is illustrated by the always dependable Don Heck, but the memorable Kirby cover image is worth the price of admission alone.
