Tales of Suspense #52 played into Cold War tensions with Stan Lee and writer Don Rico presenting the first appearance of the Black Widow — with the future Avenger originally a Russian spy bedeviling Iron Man. This classic cover story has the femme fatale dispatched to kill former Soviet scientist Anton Vanko, who defected as the Crimson Dynamo to begin working for Tony Stark. Natasha travels with fellow assassin Boris, who'll use Vanko's armor to battle Iron Man. (Vanko's former assistant Alex Nevsky would next don the armor to become the villainous Crimson Dynamo.) As seen here, artist Don Heck originally depicted Natasha Romanoff as more of a colorful supervillain. She would soon shed that style in favor of the sleek catsuit that we all recognize today, with the Black Widow's success in the Avengers movies turning this iconic issue into a classic comic and important investment.

This is a truly rare collectible in high-grade, with this 9.0 copy also QES-certified for superior eye appeal, clean edges, and deep color strike. (Visit the QES website The vibrant color palette jumps off the cover with an overall sharp and sturdy presentation.
