Schomburg bondage cover; Sub-Mariner story (Spring 1944)Human Torch #15 is graced with one of a seemingly endless run of amazing Alex Schomburg covers. This particular issue shows the Torch attempting to rescue an extinguished Toro from a bath of molten metal, while a horde of robed evildoers scampers about in an attempt to thwart his efforts. The stories inside the pages are the sort of gruesome fare that dominated the WWII era, Torch and Toro get their fires put out often and many casualties are racked up, poison, explosions, stampedes, deadly falls, and other pre-code mayhem ensues, all rendered by the talented draftsmen Al Gabriele, Harry Sahle, and Allen Simon.
