Superman Co-Creator Jerry Siegel Signed and Sealed Poison-Pen Letter Shaming National Comics Executives
troubling letter from Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel's hate-mail campaign against National (later DC) Comics executives
Jerry Siegel LettersThis sealed envelope contains a signed letter from Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel which remains an untouched artifact from one of the most vicious feuds in comics history -- as the embittered writer continued his poison-pen campaign to shame the National Publications (later DC) brass who'd bought the rights to Superman for $130 in 1938!
The final months of 1951 saw Siegel sending out letters to National executives blasting them for leaving him "destitute" as Superman brought in millions of dollars. As seen here, however, Siegel also tried to embarrass them by reaching out to their own family members. This unopened letter was sent directly to the home of National boss Jack Liebowitz, and addressed to his daughter Joan .
