DESCRIPTION
ow pages; Moderate (B-3): color touch, pieces added, tear seals, spine split sealed, reinforced; bottom edge trimmed
Bob Kane/Jerry Robinson cover/art; 1st (and only) GA Scarecrow cover

The Scarecrow began as a startlingly original Batman villain created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson. Surprisingly, the macabre murderer only made two Golden Age appearances before being shelved for several years. Detective Comics #73 features the second of those beloved early turns, as well as the Scarecrow's only Golden Age cover appearance. Of course, the character was later successfully revived by DC in the Silver Age. From there, both the Scarecrow and his alter-ego of Dr. Jonathan Crane found big-screen fame in director Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy of Batman films — ensuring that early appearances by the creepy criminal remain top collectibles.

The moderate amount of professional restoration performed on this copy of Detective #73 has brought out the book’s finest qualities and put them on full display. That includes all the initial impact of Bob Kane's surreal cover art., with colors that really glow on a book that appears both sturdy and stable after 81 years. This issue represents the only occurrence of Scarecrow appearing on a comic book cover in the Golden Age, With only 120 copies on the CGC Census, this classic comic should be a very popular item at auction.
