Infantino cvr/art; 1st appearance Phantom StrangerThe Phantom Stranger is an enigma, possessing a scope of impressive powers, but also having no defined origin story, he is an immortal spirit who spends most of his time investigating occult occurrences, debunking fraudulent ghost legends and quack magicians. The character has proven to have a cult fan base and has lasted the test of time to become a DC mainstay since his inception in this first appearance, published in 1952. In his debut, Phantom Stranger is primarily a mysterious sleuth, with the power to appear and disappear without a trace, who does battle with some delusional and dangerous villains. He would go on to become a truly powerful hero with deep connections to DC’s occult realm that grew to prominence in the late ’60s.
