Hitler Taken to Hell!; SUPER SCARCE classic issue; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 8 (CBI)
Ruben Blades Copy

The outstanding cover of Great Comics #3 illustrates why Golden Age collectors are continually drawn to the comics of the era — with wildly imaginative stories that still struggled to keep up with the madness of the times. In this case, the enduring "Hitler Goes to Hell" art is only setting up a classic interior tale titled, "Futuro Kidnaps Hitler and Takes Him to Hades!"

It's explained that Futuro (in his first and only appearance) has "unworldly brain power" and "can foresee the grim shadows of upcoming events." Futuro still has to hope Hitler is at home when he decides to abduct der Fuhrer. In truth, however, Great Comics #3 was strikingly prescient. The book hit the newsstands less than two months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, leaving this classic cover to have even more of an impact than the publishers could have imagined.

The classic Hitler cover for Great Comics #3 is one of the most memorable and impressive of the Axis torture pieces of the wartime era. There are also less than 50 copies listed on the CGC Census. Hailing from the Ruben Blades Collection, this G- copy still maintains rich colors on the classic cover's focal area. (The back cover also nicely frames the bizarre imagery from the book's adaptation of the 1935 film The Lost City ). This title is sure to be a popular lot for bidders ready to own a rare investment-level copy of this scarce beauty.
