Batman’s historical second appearance in Detective still couldn't get his picture on the cover. That didn't stop Bob Kane and Bill Finger from building the mythology of their shadowy new hero. DC was also savvy enough to add a cover banner promising The Batman was appearing “this month and every month." None of that kept Detective #28 from years of being undervalued — later leading to this book becoming a truly scarce collectible. Times were changing, however, and Fu Manchu would be making his final appearance with Detective #28. By the time this issue roared off the stands and into adolescents' back pockets, DC was no longer uncertain about the potential of their new superhero.
With only 44 copies of Detective #28 on the CGC Census, Batman's second appearance is now properly valued as a pop-culture artifact. This unusually appealing 3.5 copy from the Ruben Blades Collection copy has undergone slight restoration, presenting a dramatic (and very clean) color image that sports vibrant colors. Batman: Caped Crusader debuted Aug. 1 on Amazon Prime, with three more Batman-related projects scheduled to be released in theaters and on television in 2024 — further ensuring the Dark Knight remains one of the world's most beloved characters.
