Wonderworld Comics was one of the trailblazing books of the Golden Age, despite having to survive a legal threat and title change after the first issue. (The lawyers at DC felt that the short-lived Wonder Man was a blatant copy of Superman.) The book continued to find a following through the final issue of Wonderworld Comics #33, with the wartime adventures of U.S. Jones leading to the patriotic superhero replacing the Flame as the book's cover star.

Wonderworld went out with a classic story, too. Collectors love the tale of the White Killer, a Nazi agent with a lightbulb head and a penchant for poisoning vital Stateside factory workers. The unlikely baseball setting adds to the issue's popularity. Stories featuring the pioneering presence of Flame Girl and hard-nosed Patty O’Day also help to make this a vital final issue to Golden Age collectors.

This striking 6.0 Wonderworld Comics #22 is a typically rare Golden Age find from the Ruben Blades Collection, with only 22 copies in the CGC Census — and only 5 copies graded higher. The colors of the cover's focal point are uniquely vivid for the grade, offering all the impact of when this issue hit the stands 82 years ago!
