First Atlas issue, Human Torch and Toro storyIn 1954, Atlas Comics (nee Timely), attempted to revive one of their most-popular properties, Captain America, along with his sidekick Bucky, and pitted the pair of super-heroes against a new threat, the Red Menace of Communism! Adapting the tried-and-true formula from the Golden Age, the attempted reboot didn't really gain traction, but, all was not for naught, the changing times would give rise to many hungry and talented newcomers to the comic illustrator's pack. This issue boasts a wonderful cover by John Romita, who would steadily grow into one of the big names in the Silver Age. Many of these curiosities of the post-war era carry little gems of comic history, if you know where to look for them, they can be quite rewarding.
