Joe Shuster's classic cover for 1939's Action Comics #10 — marking Superman's third cover appearance — reflects America's conflicted emotions over returning to battle while the First World War was still seared into the world's consciousness. Action #10's lead story offers something equally unconventional in a Superman tale, as the Man of Steel goes undercover in a prison to expose a brutal warden. Zatara also appears as the most enduring of the two-fisted Action backup stars. "Treasure of Ghengis Khan" has the magician taking on the Tigress, with the Golden Age villainess already making her sixth appearance as Zatara's regular rival. Today, Action Comics #10 remains another extremely rare early Superman comic that commands top dollar on the Golden Age market.
