The March 1933 issue of Weird Tales features stories by great fantasy-horror writers like Seabury Quinn, O. A. Kline, Paul Ernst, and Clark Ashton Smith. The issue's most important story by far is Robert E. Howard's "The Tower of the Elephant", the third appearance of Conan the Barbarian. These early reappearances of Conan created a legacy that lasts to today, and paved the way for both Conan and future serialized characters, like most comic-book superheroes.
This issue features a classic Margaret Brundage cover illustrating a scene from "a powerful werewolf story" by Seabury Quinn. A nude heroine walks majestically through a stark landscape alongside hungry ravenous wolves. Her hair flows majestically behind her as she leads the wolves towards their prey. Brundage beautifully captures the female form, and this cover is both tasteful and terrifying, pushing the limits of what one would expect on a pulp. Covers like these are what made Weird Tales famous for its art.
