Title Splash to the story: “Turmoil in the Time-Stream”

Big John Buscema, appropriately given the title of the Michelangelo of Comics for his seemingly effortless ability to draw, left an undeniable mark in the world of comics. Beginning early in Marvel’s Silver Age, Buscema, along with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, would become one of Stan Lee’s go-to artists. Buscema was tasked with some of the biggest books of the time including launching the Silver Surfer’s solo title, as well as for illustrating long memorable runs on Conan the Barbarian and The Avengers. His work on Thor in the ‘70s, was second only to Jack Kirby. It was the best the character had ever seen, with his bold, dramatic staging and exemplary skill as an artist, bringing life to the Asgardian God of Thunder.

This Title Splash, a window into Marvel’s past, is amongst the best produced during Marvel’s Bronze Age. The entire piece depicts Thor and his companions confronting Zarrko, the Tomorrow Man and includes many of Buscema’s famous trademarks - The high energy composition is densely packed with Thor’s Asgardian comrades; Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, and Jane Foster. It is masterfully embellished by Joe Sinnott, one of the finest inkers to ever grace a comic book. Nearly a half century after its creation, this prime example of Buscema’s work continues to inspire wonder and amazement from readers, a testament to the care and ability he put into his craft. The art is accomplished in ink over graphite on Bristol board. It is professionally framed to 18 x 23 inches and is in excellent condition.

Released on October 14, 1975
