Red Skull cover/story by Avison; bondage cover (7/42)Creators Jack Kirby and Joe Simon handed Captain America Comics over to the capable Al Avison and Syd Shores after completing ten issues of the series, here, on the cover of issue 16, we see the title's new artists' continuation of the motifs that helped the book rise to prominence. The central image reflects aspects of two of the Cap stories contained within this Golden Age thrill-o-rama: In "The Horror of the Seas" Betty Ross is abducted by the Hooded Horror, who is eventually thwarted by Cap, Bucky and the Lai-Sons who do battle with Sea Monsters as well as Nazis; in "Red Skull 's Deadly Revenge" the titular villain spends a month masquerading as Captain America, whom he is holding captive, only to fall to his death after a battle with Cap and Bucky in an airplane, or does he?
