classic Alex Schomburg Sub-Mariner aircraft carrier cover; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 6 (CBI)

Sub-Mariner #8 stands out as one of Alex Schomburg's most thrilling wartime covers, with a dreamlike image of an oversized Prince Namor capsizing a Japanese carrier with his bare hands. The inspired imagery makes this issue one of the most enduring "Rising Sun" covers of all time for Golden Age collectors. The cover's inspired by the enclosed "Setting of the Rising Sun!" story, with the Sub-Mariner also going undercover in the Marines for "The Mystery of the Lighthouse." Collectors also value this vintage book for one of the rare scripts by pulp writer Kermit Jaediker, whose "Genius for Murder" is a particularly grim tale of a psychotic would-be writer tracked down by the Angel.

Only five copies graded higher in the CGC Census!

Much has been said about the collectability and value of Alex Schomburg’s iconic wartime covers, but the conversation never seems to get old, as his work is simply stunning, crazily inventive, and leaves a lasting impression on the viewer. Sub-Mariner #8’s cover shows Namor tipping over an aircraft carrier as Japanese soldiers and planes tumble into the raging waters below. The bright red hues that dominate the background of this cover contrast perfectly with the yellows and greens that compose the logo and foreground. This 8.0 copy is quite well preserved and is one of the third-highest-graded examples on the census. With only 48 copies listed, this is a very rare Golden Age keepsake.
