Superman #9 boasts one of the all-time classic Superman covers from the mighty Fred Ray, whose amiably powerful Superman came to define the character's public and merchandising persona for the first decade of his existence. This issue is also a top Superman collectible for two classic stories. That includes Clark Kent ditching his timidity whenever a framed Lois Lane isn't around in "The Phony Pacifists." There's also the surprisingly brutal "Joe Gatson, Racketeer." The story begins with Superman foiling a judge's suicide, and ends with a grim twist on "faster than a speeding bullet." Instead of stepping in to protect the judge's kidnapped daughter from a gunshot, Superman just kills off the titular gangster by throwing him into the bullet's path!

This striking 9.2 Superman #9 easily ranks at the top of the CGC Census! Fred Ray's breathtaking cover art looks impossibly preserved, featuring a blazing color strike and a sturdy spine that's in better shape than most copies on the newsstands of 1941. This beloved book even sports corners that have stayed sharp for 83 years. These early Superman issues are set to only become more collectible, as well. Fans are anxiously awaiting the launch of the big-screen DC Extended Universe with 2025's Superman, to be followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in 2026.
