Superman #24 offers another classic cover from Jack Burnley, featuring the Man of Steel posing before an unfurled flag. The patriotic fervor is timeless, but this issue also serves as a cultural curio with the cover's use of the term "adventure strip," which would soon be abandoned after the end of WWII. In this case, however, the book boasts the classic adventure of "Perils of Poor Lois," in which Superman uses his super-imagination to do some serious daydreaming about a regular life with Lois Lane. That story includes the first appearance of Lois Lane's father, although this Sam Lane is too much of a fantasy to be canon.

This 8.5 Superman #24 is an outstanding showcase for Jack Burnley's classic cover, with only five copies graded higher on the CGC Census! Superman’s place in pop culture as an avatar of American values is carefully preserved here, with a sturdy spine and sharp corners in service of pages that remain starkly white after 81 years. There's also impressively little aging to the cover's vivid colors contrasted by rich inky blacks. These early Superman issues are set to only become more collectible, as well. Fans are anxiously awaiting the launch of the big-screen DC Extended Universe with 2025's Superman, to be followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in 2026.
