Weird Comics #16 brought the Eagle onto the battlefield with Bill Whitman's classic cover. This rare book captures Fox's wartime hero in the early days before secret super-soldier Capt. Bill Powers moved on to his own book and became more of a direct swipe of Captain America. (He already had his sidekick Buddy.) Golden Age collectors know that these early Fox Features Syndicate titles are rare finds that quickly disappear when they briefly become available.

Weird Comics #16 is an incredibly rare comic, with only 17 copies listed on the census, this 8.5 being the second-highest-graded example on the boards. The book is in very stable condition, with a bright color strike, rock-solid spine, and very few visible signs of its nearly 85-year vintage. Fox Features Syndicate is a publisher that is well-known amongst fans of the Golden Age, the B-level imprint pumped out comics in an attempt to capture a segment of the marketplace during the wartime boom. Although many of Fox’s heroes have faded into the mists of time, collectors have helped raise these rare curios of yesteryear to cult status, and, thanks to the scarcity and collectability of these books, they have become quite valuable and sought-after keepsakes at auction.
