Marvel Mystery Comics #35 offers more greatness from Alex Schomburg, with the legendary artist taking up every inch of the cover to cram in wild WWII action. The Human Torch and Sub-Mariner are taking the lead in hammering Nazi forces as U.S. forces storm the beach. There's also a rare misstep from Schomburg with the WWI-era designation of the American army as "AEF." That doesn't distract from the typically brilliant artwork, though. This classic issue has the Torch and Namor battling apart in separate stories, taking on, respectively, the evil Von Belch (aka the self-styled "Canadian Fuhrer") and cargo-ship saboteur Von Gotch. There's also an offbeat adventure for the Angel as he takes on a vampire in "The Banquet of Blood!"

Alex Schomburg does it again! The fertile imagination of the king of wartime comics is once again on full display on the cover of Marvel Mystery #35. Every single inch of this cover is overflowing with crazy detail. Sub-Mariner and Human Torch lay waste to a platoon of Nazis as Allied forces attack with landing craft in the background, predicting the action of D-Day by nearly two years. Thanks to its historical interest, and the inclusion of Timely’s iconic wartime heroes, this is a certified classic. With a scant 72 copies listed on the census, this is quite a rare find, this 8.5 copy is one of three second-highest-graded copies with only one book graded higher. The copy has a very strong color strike and is in an exceptional state of preservation. There are several great Schomburg covers available in EA#61, and this book is certainly one to keep an eye on.
