Classic Hitler/Destroyer cover by Al Gabriele and Syd Shores; cover story ("Hitler Speaks") by Stan Lee (5/42)
Mystic Comics #9 is one of the rarest and most sought-after of all Timely Comics — notably for Al Gabriele and Syd Shores' unforgettable cover featuring the Destroyer giving Adolf Hitler a good whack on the head while saving a lady in bondage. Golden Age collectors continue to put a premium on inspiring wartime covers featuring heroes punching the daylights out of the Axis' hated leaders. It's even more impressive that this wild imagery sets up a proper cover story, with a young Stan Lee letting loose with his notorious "Hitler Speaks!"
Amazingly enough, the cover is actually toned down from the interior tale. "Hitler Speaks" (with art by Chad Grothhkopf) has the Destroyer racing to save his female sidekick Flora von Banger from Hitler himself, after she's been abducted while helping pirate radio forces broadcasting behind enemy lines. Flora is about to be branded with a swastika-shaped iron when the Destroyer rallies to save her from Hitler. (Der Führer gets a good beating, while that iron ends up branding the rear end of Hitler's minion Baron Uhh.) The scarcity of this issue always inspires heated bidding on the few instances when it becomes available.

Only two copies graded higher on the CGC Census!
There are just under 50 copies of this comic listed on the CGC census, which makes this a very rare book that should draw a lot of attention from bidders looking for scarce treats and Golden Age collectibles in EA#61. Any comic featuring the visage of Adolph Hitler is in a specific collectible category all its own, as these books tend to go for impressive prices. This 8.5 copy shows the Destroyer bonking der Fuhrer on the noggin, which was quite in vogue at the time. The book is tied for the third-highest graded and presents a very attractive, bright color strike and stable overall structure, which will certainly increase attention to this special GA curio.
