Amazing Spider-Man #300 proves that a long-running title can keep generating top collectible keys with the first appearance of Venom (after the previous issue's cameo). This vital issue also answers the big question of what happens when you pair a disgraced suicidal journalist with a vengeful homicidal alien. A bitter Eddie Brock discovers that merging with the alien symbiote is a real recipe for disaster. The good news is that Marvel whipped up one of the biggest debuts of this ongoing Modern Age for this milestone 300th issue, as Venom emerges via Amazing Spider-Man scribe David Michelinie and writer/artist Todd McFarlane.

Venom, of course, will become a beloved anti-hero while also proving to be one of Spidey's greatest threats. The character has enjoyed a huge amount of success outside of Amazing Spider-Man, appearing in numerous solo books and virtually every TV show or video game related to Spider-Man. Venom also easily became the most popular movie character in Sony's attempt to make movies set in a Spider-Man Universe without Spider-Man. After becoming the sole Sony villain to get his own trilogy of films, Venom has now been established as part of the Marvel Studios series of Spider-Man films. That has fans eagerly anticipating a rebooting of Venom, as the alien's earliest appearances remain hot collectibles.

Rumors are circulating online about Venom making his official MCU debut in the upcoming feature Avengers: Doomsday, which would certainly see Amazing Spider-Man #300 receive another bump up in value and collectibility. Sony’s Venom trilogy has already added some extra heat to this book, and the first full appearance of Venom is an important Modern Age key on its own merits. This 9.8 copy bears all the hallmarks of an NM/M comic, impeccable condition, a strong color strike, and no visible marks of wear. Additionally, this copy has been signed by Todd McFarlane, Stan Lee, and David Michelinie who has remarked “We are Venom”. This is a stellar copy of a popular premiere issue that has the added attraction of the creators’ signatures, all in all, it is a very cool find for EA#61.
