Sprague de Camp and Fletcher Pratt. The stories in this collection are barroom tall tales, inspired by the Jorkens stories of Lord Dunsany. The majority of the pieces, a total of twelve, were originally published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction between 1950-1954 with an additional three stories appeared in Weird Tales. In 1923, a publication called Weird Tales was founded with the mission "to publish brilliantly strange material that can't be found elsewhere." Today, the iconic magazine is renowned for launching the careers of celebrated authors like H.P. Lovecraft, Ray Bradbury, and Robert E. Howard, as well as legendary fantasy artists such as Virgil Finlay, J. Allen St. John, and Margaret Brundage. These and other groundbreaking writers helped shape the landscape of popular fiction and define the science fiction genre as we know it.
