It's impossible to overstate the enormous impact Alex Schomburg had on the design and overall popularity of the wartime comic book. The maestro of the Golden Age set the tone for the era, and his covers are immediately distinguishable. This incredible cover to All Select Comics #2 is certainly no exception, Captain America, the Human Torch, and Sub-Mariner are shown destroying a bridge filled with Japanese vehicles and soldiers. The imposing heroes twist metal like taffy while an aerial battle fills up the edges of the frame, all part of another classic from the King of the WWII Cover. Many tried to replicate Schomburg’s penchant for controlled chaos, and some came close, but nobody could squeeze so much information into a page and keep a cohesive thought in the viewer’s mind.
