The battle with the metal mutant maulers is great fun but the real attraction to this issue is the fine details; the relationship between Cyclops and Marvel Girl, only hinted at previously, is confirmed, as is the love between Banshee and Moira MacTaggert, it is also revealed for the first time that Wolverine’s claws are part of his body, not only a part of his costume, also of particular interest are a slew of cameos, including Jack Kirby and Stan Lee as well as crossover appearances by Clark Kent and Lois Lane. This is a subtly important entry into the growing mythology of the new X-Men team, which will have ramifications down the road, and there is a bonus Christmas theme throughout the issue.
