Exerting his influence over the X-Men series and their rising success, Canadian-born artist/writer John Byrne came up with Alpha Flight, the first Marvel hero team to emerge from the Great White North. X-Men #120 includes the first appearance of the team, composed of Vindicator, Northstar, Shaman, Sasquatch, Snowbird, and Aurora; the group would soon go on to star in their own series. In this issue, Alpha Flight is dispatched to bring Wolverine back under the sway of the Canadian government to fulfill his obligations as an agent for the nation.
