Before rebranding themselves Archie Comics after their star teenage attraction, MLJ, like most other WWII-era comic publishers, aped the successful DC/Fawcett/Timely formula of patriotic beefcakes smacking around Nazis alongside towheaded sidekicks. MLJ's works combined the cheerful can-do spirit of Fawcett's characters with the naked jingoism of Timely and the relentless energy of DC to create a unique battery of heroes that proved reliable and enjoyable cult favorites all the way through to the present day.
