Despite an enormous print run, Archie Comics #1 has survived in astonishingly low numbers. Top-tier Archie collectors know this classic debut is considered one of the "black holes" of the collecting community, with an Archie #1 seldom seen again once it's brought into a collection.. Archie Comics #1 is likely the single most difficult major Golden Age key to obtain after Pep Comics #22 (that being where Archie made his first appearance). One of the most demanded and revered of comic book keys, this book never fails to elicit excitement when copies surface at auction.
For decades, Archie Comics 1 was the most quiet and unassuming of comic book keys. It always attracted dedicated fans and buyers but otherwise modestly bided its time, never belying its extreme scarcity and incredible historic importance. Now, those days are long gone as new collectors entering the rapidly growing vintage comic market have come to discover the importance of this book. Demand is constantly climbing as its value exceeds even the wildest expectations of the most bullish of analysts. Like Action Comics 1, this issue has become less a piece of comics history and more a vital bedrock of 20th Century Americana. Its charming style, lighthearted mischievousness, and sly come-hither innuendo proved incalculably influential on much of the past 75 years of pop culture. This impeccably preserved copy is the second-highest known to exist, and, considering the feeding frenzy that has accompanied Archie keys in recent auctions, we expect worldwide press and attention for this auction lot. Anyone looking for the best of the best would do well to add this wonder to their collection.

Overstreet Guide 2014 VF (8.0) value = $60,000.
