Continuing the legendary and boundary breaking storyline from Green Lantern #85, this issue delves deeper into the damage and corruption underpinning the heroin trade. After revealing his drug addiction in the previous issue, Speedy proclaims he will quit, cold turkey, to spite Green Arrow for rejecting and beating him, and he goes to Dinah Lance’s home to dry out. Meanwhile, GL/GA are in hot pursuit of Speedy’s junkie “friends,” and once they catch up to them, they discover one has died of an overdose, a sequence which inspired the memorable Neal Adams cover design. The pair of heroes eventually track down the pusher behind the influx of heroin, trace him to his Caribbean island hideout and dispatch him and his lab technician. The story ends with a somber funeral and a heartfelt conversation between the newly clean Speedy and his father figure, Green Arrow. This comic, along with the previous issue are considered classics of the Bronze Age, that helped push the envelope and redefine what comic books were all about, both issues remain desired collectibles and continue to make a strong showing in the auction marketplace.
