DESCRIPTION
pre-dates Detective Comics #1, first comic based on a single theme
Detective Picture Stories, the first-ever "themed" comic anthology title, is essentially pulp magazine style and storytelling converted into comic book form. There is something endearing and charming about these books, with their occasionally crude or clumsy artwork. You cannot deny the primal, gut-level that these strips operate on. Though the title only existed for five issues, during that time Will Eisner and Bob Kane both got early breaks that allowed them to eventually make their mark on the young industry. These are special pieces of historic Americana and pop literature and a startling memory of a time before men could defy gravity and see through walls.
