Batman Adventures #12 features the first appearance of Harley Quinn in the proper DC Comics Universe, after the Joker's girlfriend became a fan sensation on Batman: The Animated Series .Created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, Harley appeared in the cartoon series as girlfriend and sidekick of the Joker before being written into the comic book adaptation of the show as Arkham Asylum psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel. That's where she'd meet "Mr. J" and become the "Cupid of Crime."

Harley Quinn has gone on to become one of the biggest pop-culture comic stars of the Modern Age. Conventions are always packed with Harley cosplay, while her animated presence has been featured in all forms of DC adaptations. The character made her big-screen debut as portrayed by Margot Robbie in the Suicide Squad films and 2020's Birds of Prey. Fans are already speculating about the character's return in James Gunn's DC Extended Universe, while Lady Gaga portrays Harley outside that canon in 2024's Joker: Folie à Deux . Meanwhile, Batman Adventures #12 continues to become even more of a classic collectible.
