staple pull
1st appearance of Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Toad, Mastermind and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants; 2nd appearance of Magneto; Jack Kirby cover/art; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 8 (CBI)
X-Men #4 features Magneto ushering in the first appearance of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (who, of course, would wise up and become
Avengers) along with Toad and Mastermind (who'd stay evil) for the debut of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. That's an impressive array of firsts coming so soon after the first appearance of the X-Men and Magneto in
X-Men #1. There's also a classic Jack Kirby cover to further establish
X-Men #4 as a particularly beloved favorite — although all the early issues of this classic title have remained some of the Silver Age's most collectible books.
Of course, a new crew of mutants (including
Wolverine and Marvel Girl's evolution into Phoenix) would revive the title in the ’70s starting with
Giant-Size X-Men #1.
X-Men #4 still showcases many of the core characters that would launch the big-screen superhero trend of the 21st century. In addition to that hit film franchise, these teen outcasts would star in a staggering number of comic spin-offs, plus a variety of live-action TV shows and cartoons. The massive success of 2024's
Deadpool & Wolverine strongly suggests that the investment value of this perpetually hot issue will only continue to grow. There's also increased speculation of the Scarlet Witch joining Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom as a major character in both 2026's
Avengers: Doomsday and 2027's
Avengers: Secret Wars.

Artists InformationJack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
Werner Roth is an American comic book artist who's worked with Marvel's predecessor Atlas during the golden age of comics. Werner was also notably the artist who took over the X-men series after Jack Kirby left. Roth's other famous works include Lorna, the Jungle Girl and Superman's Girlfriend, Lois Lane.
