Wonderworld Comics was known for its star superhero, The Flame, who was featured on many of the title’s covers. The legendary Wonderworld #18,however, is also collectible for offering one of the industry's earliest in-jokes. The executives at Fox Publishing gave up their inside-cover ad space to offer a free coupon for the great taste of Kooba Cola. In fact, the folks at Kooba Cola even got some ad space on the comic's typically fiery cover. The only problem was that Kooba Cola didn't exist. In a bold new grab for the "Hey, Kids!" market, Fox was hoping to create demand for a soft drink that they could then sell off to a bottling company. Kooba Cola has since become a beloved reference for fans and collectors of Golden Age comics, saluting the blatant hucksterism surrounding the burgeoning medium.
