The Newsboy Legion enjoyed a nice run in the pages of Star Spangled Comics throughout the early 1940s; Jack Kirby’s team of intrepid orphan crime fighters struck a nerve with the comic-reading public with their tales of urban derring-do. This issue’s cover shows the boys receiving an autographed photo of their friend and role model, the aptly named Guardian. Kirby’s inimitable style is on full display here, with the future King continuing to build his reputation as one of the top-tier artists in the industry.
