2nd Superman cover! rare in any grade

Action Comics #7 is a classic pop-culture artifact simply as Superman's second cover appearance after becoming an instant sensation as the cover star of Action Comics #1. The brass at National Comics was still reluctant to admit that the Man of Steel was moving all those copies. In fact, there would be several more issues before Superman became the regular cover star for Action. (To be fair, Action had some great covers during that stint, wrapping the issues in the same pulp-style covers that had graced both New Adventure and More Fun up to that point.)

Action #7 still really delivered as Superman returned to the cover. Co-creator Joe Shuster's understated illustration once again sets the mood for the character's early appearances. Superman's bold strength and energy perfectly matches Shuster's simplified lines and stark landscape. It's also fun to see a variation on superheroes swooping in with the bad guy, as Superman dangles a criminal high above Metropolis. There's a classic story, too, as "Superman Joins the Circus" — specifically, as a strongman to save the owner from ruthless creeps trying to ruin his business.(There's also the satisfaction of a petty Clark Kent getting revenge on an office bully at the Daily Star newspaper where he works.) These early Action Comics remain top collectibles and valuable investments, with Superman having already spent decades being regularly featured in cartoons, serials, movies, television shows, and merchandising. Fans are anxiously awaiting the launch of the big-screen DC Extended Universe with 2025's Superman, to be followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in 2026.

Action Comics #7 is an excruciatingly rare book, with just over fifty copies on the census, so collectors can’t be choosy about grade or restoration if they want to add this prize to their portfolio. The second-ever appearance of the Man of Steel on a comic cover is an important key for any Superman collector worth their salt. The restoration work done on this book has given it new life, the colors are punchy, with a very clean presentation, strong borders, and a fresh eye appeal. This comic is so rare in any condition that even lower grades go for staggering amounts, this Event Auction provides a wonderful opportunity for a determined bidder to land this copy, for a percentage of an original condition example, we fully expect there to be heated competition over this book come auction time.

Overstreet Guide 2020 F/VF (7.0) value = $198,000.
