Denny O'Neil Estate CollectionDenny O'Neil was one of the most significant writers in American comic books from the 60s through the turn of the century; He singlehandedly brought comics into the Modern Age by introducing more topical themes and redefined what people thought comics could be, specifically with his work on Batman and Green Lantern/Green Arrow with Neal Adams in the early 70s where they tackled subjects from racism and drugs to the war in Vietnam and his reimagining of Wonder Woman into a feminist character in the late 60s; In Batman, O'Neil created Ra's al Ghul and his daughter Talia who would become staple Batman characters. He also helped redefine the Joker and Two-Face into modern, threatening villains; Denny also produced groundbreaking work on The Shadow, Daredevil, Iron Man, and is credited with coming up with the name Optimus Prime for the Transformers; He became group editor at DC overseeing all of their Batman titles in 1986 where he reigned over what is likely the most creatively productive and popular period the character has ever seen.
