RARE!; cheesecake coverHarry Sahl is one of the unsung heroes of the Golden Age of comics, applying his versatile brush to superhero tales, western adventure, and eventually crime, working with the legendary Mickey Spillane to create Mike Danger, the precursor to Mike Hammer. Yet he seemed most at home on MLJ and Quality's humor titles, his plush figures and broad caricatures fitting perfectly with the naughty-but-nice house style that dominated war-era teen and comedy strips. This extremely rare example of rural humor boasts one of Sahle's typically enjoyable, cleanly crafted cover images, where the joke is nearly secondary to his vivid line and, shall we say, carefully rendered figure at left. This sort of cheerful cheesecake imagery has proven irresistible to collectors in recent years, as the saucy, sassy stylishness of the classic pinup era has made a welcome comeback.
