1st appearance of X-Men, w/ origin; 1st Magneto; Jack Kirby cover & art; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 10 (CBI)

X-Men #1 made comics history with the first appearances of the original X-Men — including Professor X, Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Iceman, and Marvel Girl, as well as evil mutant Magneto. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby came up with inspired characters, as well as a high concept that created multiple new teen characters without pesky origin stories. (Stan Lee originally envisioned the comic as The Mutants , but changed the title to appease publisher Martin Goodman —naming the newly formed group after its founder, Professor Charles Xavier.) A new crew of mutants (including Wolverine and Marvel Girl's evolution into Phoenix) would revive the title in the ’70s starting with Giant-Size X-Men #1. This vital debut still introduces many of the core characters that would launch the big-screen superhero trend of the 21st century.

In addition to their own film franchise, the teen outcasts would star in a staggering number of comic spin-offs, plus a variety of live-action TV shows and cartoons. There’s even more interest in the title today as Marvel Studios takes over the beloved characters once owned by 20th Century Fox.The massive success of 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine strongly suggests that the investment value of this perpetually hot issue will only continue to grow.
________________________________________________

X-Men #1 was released in September of 1963 and contained the debut appearances of Professor X, Magneto, and the original five X-Men (Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, and Marvel Girl). This is one of the greatest Marvel keys of all time, and one of the most significant issues of the 1960s. After creating all-time classic characters the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby teamed up again to deliver the X-Men. The series would last for years, ushering in other great artists like Jim Steranko and Neal Adams, and become a reprint depository before being brought back to life in Giant-Size X-Men #1, and going on to become an international household name, with countless comics, cartoons, movies and video games based on the superhero team.

This copy earned a 4.5 CGC Universal Grade, with beautiful off-white pages. The central image of the five X-Men teaming up to fight Magneto has remained in beautiful condition. The white background is quick to show imperfections, and only minor wear and discoloration are visible. The X-Men's red logo appears just as sharply as a book released this year, let alone almost sixty years ago. This copy has minor Marvel chipping, which is standard on a Marvel book from this period and does not detract from the eye appeal at all. Another 4.5 recently sold for $18,000. A major first appearance like this is always in high demand and constantly increasing in value, at any grade and any price. This is an amazing piece of Marvel Comics history.
