A 15% BUYER'S PREMIUM WILL BE ADDED TO THIS ITEM AT CONCLUSION OF THE AUCTIONIn August 1938, Red Circle Productions launched the pulp series Marvel Science Stories. Overseen by Martin Goodman, uncle of comic-book magnate Stan Lee, these early "Marvel" pulps formed part of the publishing empire that would later lead to Timely, Atlas, and even Marvel Comics. The first use of "Marvel" logo was later used on the cover of the Marvel Comics #1!
This issue features a classic pulp cover painted by Norman Saunders, highlighting the Henry Kuttner novel "Avengers of Space". This cover is so strange and uniquely pulp. It features a bikini-clad Good Girl leashed to an incomprehensible alien torture device, while a classic strong-man pulp hero runs away from ape-men chasing him, to shoot a nefarious brain in a jar. This is the kind of strange, sexy, sci-fi pop-art that can only be found in pulps. A first issue of an early Marvel title, this pulp would be a welcome addition to any comic or pulp fan's collection.Click on the image below to watch the YouTube video about this item!
