ow/w pages; Stan Lee signature series
1st appearance of Dr. Doom, w/ origin, bondage cover; Jack Kirby cover/art; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 9 (CBI)
Fantastic Four #5 features the first appearance of
Doctor Doom, instantly creating a top Silver Age collectible as the
Fantastic Four ushered in one of Marvel's most important villains. Of course, the deathly countenance of the Latverian ruler had roots in the Golden Age. Jack Kirby's design (and Stan Lee's complex characterization) still made Victor von Doom one of the most influential pop-culture figures of the past 60 years.
Dr. Doom was soon a major Marvel presence outside of
Fantastic Four, with Latveria becoming a hot destination for every hero from Thor to Luke Cage. Doom would even dominate the first
Secret Wars saga on a planet populated by all of Marvel's favorites. (Mark Hamill confirmed the character's massive impact, recalling that his reaction to Darth Vader when first reading the
Star Wars script was, “It’s Dr. Doom!”) A 2024
Doom one-shot comic quickly sold out in the shops. Fans also anxiously awaited Doom's debut within the official Marvel Cinematic Universe. That became one of the biggest showbiz stories of 2024 when Robert Downey Jr. took on the role for the upcoming
Avengers: Doomsday and
Avengers: Secret Wars.

Fantastic Four #5 introduced audiences to the greatest supervillain of all time, Doctor Doom! This copy earned a CGC 5.0 and has off-white to white pages. This is a Signature Series copy, signed by Stan Lee on February 23, 2013. Lee's signature is center stage, in the perfect place, an empty spot between our quartet of heroes. This book presents really well and is truly impressive for a 5.0. Any wear visible along the perimeter does not detract from this classic cover image. Doom is a stunning green and contrasts perfectly with the sharp red logo and soft blue background. FF keys have been rapidly heating up in recent months, with the Fantastic Four tapped as being the focus of the next big MCU series, it's only a matter of time before Doctor Doom begins targeting The Avengers! Rumors are swirling that the upcoming “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will feature a FF cameo! With all of this in the works, Fantastic Four #5 is hotter than ever. Another 5.0 Fantastic Four #5 CGC Signature Series Stan Lee sold for $22,998 last year!
Overstreet Guide 2021 VG/FN (5.0) value = $5,000.
