The chaotic and bizarre covers of Timely’s wartime output at times seemed like a competition between Schomburg, Kirby, and others like Al Avison, to see who could outdo one another with their over-the-top concepts. For instance, this kooky “Pygmies of Terror” cover by Avison brings the action to a fever pitch with the miniature melee taking place on the table as the real Cap and Bucky close in on the sickly green Dr. Crime and his personalized purple cowl. The interior features two Captain America tales, one the cover story, where shrunken Cap and Bucky do battle with house cats and other terrifying threats; the other a tale of South American political intrigue. The book is filled out with the typical anthology fare all of which were penned by the one and only Stan Lee. A fantastic Golden Age romp by the fine folks at Timely.
