1st appearance of Spider-Man (Peter Parker) w/ origin, 1st Uncle Ben & Aunt May (8/62); Jack Kirby cover, Steve Ditko art; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 10 (CBI)

Amazing Fantasy #15 ushered in the first appearance of Spider-Man, quickly becoming the Silver Age equivalent of Action #1 as both a cultural artifact and important investment for collectors. The teen hero shook up the comics industry in his first appearance as a neurotic Everyman gifted with extraordinary powers. There was also a different kind of tragic backstory fueled by Peter Parker’s guilt over the death of his Uncle Ben. Marvel brought in Jack Kirby to catch the eyes of kids with one of the best covers in comics history; Steve Ditko took over the interior art while working with co-creator Stan Lee on this legendary debut.

All that innovation made for a timeless collectible that's kept Spider-Man (and Peter Parker) swinging for over 60 years as one of the most iconic and collectible characters in comics. Spidey remains the biggest star of all variations on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, helping to establish Amazing Fantasy #15 as one of the most reliable investments in comics history.

A very appealing 6.0, with a small amount of Marvel chipping along the perimeter, this book will certainly command a high price at auction. The bright red contrasts against the slightly muted blue and faded green on this cover to deliver a striking visual impression. This iconic piece of history denotes a seismic shift in the superhero genre in the most-crisp detail. Spider-Man swings into the frame, his face completely obscured, inviting the viewer to put themselves in his uniform. He is everyone and no one all at once and he’s taking on those who would do harm to innocents, boldly standing up for the weak, while inspiring an entirely new generation of emotionally vulnerable superheroes. A perennial favorite in our Event Auctions, this is the top Silver Age book of all time, and it just never seems to stop going up in value.

Overstreet Guide 2022 FN (6.0) value = $46,800
